Reopening of the Museum Barberini on October 31, 2022
After a five-day closure due to an attack on a painting, the Museum Barberini reopens to visitors on Monday, October 31. Both the exhibition Surrealism and Magic: Enchanted Modernity and the permanent display of the Hasso Plattner Collection – showing 107 masterpieces of Impressionism and Post-Impressionism – will be on view again. The target of the attack, Claude Monet's Grainstacks (1890), has also returned to its place in the collection.
Ortrud Westheider, Director of the Museum Barberini: “We are delighted to reopen the museum on Monday. The many expressions of solidarity, which we have received throughout these last few days, have not only encouraged us in this decision, but also shown us how emotionally attached many of our visitors are to the museum.”
The security concept has been intensified. Guests will only be able to visit the galleries after handing in their jackets and bags at the free cloakroom or storing them in lockers.
The temporary exhibition will also be open again from Monday onwards. “After the brilliant kick-off last weekend, we are delighted that all of the masterworks that are part of the Surrealism and Magic show are now back on display”, explains curator Daniel Zamani.
