Even though Meret Oppenheim is not represented in the current exhibition at the Museum Barberini, the artist, who was born in Berlin in 1913, created one of the leading works of Surrealism titled Breakfast with Fur and is considered one of the most important artists of the 20th century. She first became famous as the muse and model of photographer Man Ray. Later, during a very active creative period in the 1950s, the painter, sculptor and poet created a multifaceted oeuvre that, poetic and enigmatic at the same time, spans the arc from surrealism to modernism. The film documentary presents the dazzling life of the artist which , who, looking back on her life's work, stated: "Freedom is not given to you, you have to take it”.
