On June 25, 2025, ZEIT editor-in-chief Giovanni di Lorenzo and author Florian Illies will bring Augen zu—Germany’s most successful art podcast, produced by DIE ZEIT and ZEIT ONLINE—live to the Museum Barberini. Following episodes on towering figures in art history such as Andy Warhol, Frida Kahlo, Meret Oppenheim, Pablo Picasso, Paula Modersohn-Becker, and most recently Günther Uecker, this edition will focus on the Impressionist Camille Pissarro. A major retrospective of his work opens at the Museum Barberini in Potsdam on June 14, 2025.
Camille Pissarro is regarded as a founding figure of the Impressionist movement in France. Yet his artistic roots lie in the Caribbean and South America—origins that shaped his sensibility and his interest in everyday rural life. A committed anarchist, Pissarro infused his paintings with a quiet lyricism, marked by finely observed detail and subtle harmonies. His work reflects a spirit of openness, idealism, and a lifelong drive to experiment. His subjects range widely—from landscapes and gardens to family portraits, scenes of peasant life, and the bustling streets of Paris.
Join us for a live podcast recording that explores the life and work of this central figure of Impressionism. Before the event begins, you’ll have the opportunity to explore Pissarro’s masterpieces in the museum’s new retrospective exhibition.
