House Rules
Dear visitors,
Besides curating unique works of art, the Museum Barberini’s top priority is the health of the museum’s visitors and staff, especially during the current corona virus pandemic. In order to ensure your visit is as pleasant, but also as safe as possible, we have developed comprehensive protection and hygiene measures in close cooperation with the relevant authorities of the state of Brandenburg and the city of Potsdam.
Precautionary measures against infection include restrictions on visitor numbers and the regulation of admission times with timeslot tickets. These tickets are only available online. Measures also include optimised visitor management throughout our museum and increased disinfection of critical areas. Our supervisory staff are responsible for ensuring that these rules are followed. We therefore request you to comply with their instructions when you are advised of a measure introduced for the protection or consideration of our visitors and staff. Please address any enquiries or suggestions to the Barberini team: info@museum-barberini.de; phone +49 331 236014-499.
For the sake of everyone’s wellbeing, please visit the Museum Barberini only if you are feeling healthy. In view of the current situation, please understand that we can only grant access to the museum according to the applicable legal provisions. The obligation to wear a mask in the rooms of the Museum Barberini does not apply. Wearing a medical or FFP2 mask is nevertheless still recommended. Our supervisors ensure that there are only as many people in the individual exhibition rooms as permissible to maintain distancing as required.
We are delighted by your interest in the details of our works of art. In order to protect the works, we request you to maintain a safety distance of 80 cm from the exhibited works. Stepping over the black line on the floor will activate a security alarm and an acoustic signal. It is not permitted to touch the exhibited works of art. For your protection, all internal and external areas are monitored by video surveillance.
Rucksacks and bags larger than A4 represent a security risk due to their unwieldiness. Please hand them in at our free cloakroom. Umbrellas, sticks, cycling helmets and similar items may also not be taken into the exhibition rooms. Walking sticks may of course be used. Damp clothing impacts the climate in the exhibition rooms and should also be handed in at the cloakroom. Larger items of clothing may not be carried under your arm. We can accept no liability for items handed in at the wardrobe.
Photography may be prohibited due to stipulations made by lenders of artworks. In this case, we request you to comply with corresponding signs. Otherwise, photography, without the use of flash and aids such as e.g. tripods and selfie sticks, is permitted for private purposes. However, we point out that publication on the internet or on social media does not represent private use and may be an infringement of copyright law. If you wish to take photographs or make films for professional or commercial purposes, you will require written permission from the Museum Barberini. Requests may be addressed by email to: presse@museum-barberini.de.
Please set your mobile phone to silent mode while you are in the building and do not use it to make phone calls so as to ensure that all our visitors can enjoy a relaxing visit. If you need to make a phone call, you can do so in the service area in the basement, or in the foyer.
Animals are not permitted in the museum premises except for service animals. Dogs must be kept on the lead in the outdoor area.
The operation of the museum may require exhibition rooms to close temporarily. We ask for your understanding and will make every effort to announce such closures as early as possible.
The entire building is accessible for people with disabilities. On request we shall be glad to loan you a wheelchair.
We see it as one of our tasks to introduce even the youngest members of society to art. Prams and buggies are welcome provided that the exhibition is not currently too crowded. On request we shall be glad to loan you a buggy.
We are delighted to welcome your children to the museum! However, please bear in mind that as a rule, children are not very familiar with the security requirements of a museum. We therefore request you not to leave children under 12 unattended. When you are in the exhibition rooms, please do not carry your child on your back or shoulders. If necessary, please carry your child in your arms in front of your body.
Snacks and beverages may not be brought into the exhibition rooms. You are welcome to eat and drink in the service area in the basement and to visit our catering facilities.
Writing and drawing is permitted in the exhibition rooms only with pencils and crayons.
Smoking is prohibited throughout the entire museum building.
