MONET - Zeiten des Umbruchs
For many people, Claude Monet is the epitome of Impressionism: one thinks of the water lilies, the fleeting brushstrokes, the over-80-year-old with a luxuriant beard in his garden in Giverny. But who was Claude Monet as a person? How did he spend his youth? How did he work, how did he become an artistic revolutionary, what hurdles did he have to overcome on his way and why is he today one of the most important artists of all times? Since June 20, 2023, the six-part documentary podcast MONET - Zeiten des Umbruchs gets to the bottom of these questions.
With former news anchor Linda Zervakis as host, the podcast traces the life and artistic career of Claude Monet through interviews with international Monet experts. Listeners gain insight not only into the artist's emotional and intellectual world and his networks of friends and family, but also into the historical circumstances of the painter, who was born in 1840 and died in 1926: marked by a spirit of optimism and industrialization, war and exile.
Claude Monet's paintings continue to move people worldwide almost 100 years after his death. We are very happy to be able to present the work of this exceptional artist through all creative periods in Potsdam with 38 works by Monet in the Hasso Plattner Collection. As a center of Impressionist landscape painting, it is important for us to convey the truly revolutionary artistic legacy of the Impressionists in a variety of ways. With the magnificently produced podcast, we have a completely new access route for us to get people interested in art, whether they are on their way to work, just cooking their lunch, or sitting on the sofa at home.

David von Becker

I discovered Claude Monet's art relatively late for myself and am always touched by the beauty and elegance with which Monet captures the fleetingness of the moment. The request to host the podcast episodes made me incredibly happy and it was great to dive into the life of a world-famous artist, to learn more about him and to translate all this densely and excitingly narrated into a docu-drama for the ears.
The podcast was elaborately realized by the production team of Studio Jot around Janis Gebhardt and Johannes Nichelmann. The six episodes "New Masters", "Friends for Life", "Flights of Fancy", "Art and Peace", "Garden of Eden" and "Water Lilies and Self-Doubt" are released weekly on Tuesdays on all common podcast platforms.
