Guided tour of Max Liebermann's Garden
With gardener Sven Lieberenz
Max Liebermann dedicated more than two hundred paintings to his garden on Lake Wannsee—it became his central motif and artistic testing ground. On a tour of the listed Liebermann Villa grounds on Lake Wannsee, gardener Sven Lieberenz guides visitors through the history and present of this special place. You will learn how the garden was created according to Liebermann's ideas, which plants inspired his painting, and how the historic ensemble is being preserved and carefully developed today with expert care – also in the context of climate change.

Guided Tour of the Karl Foerster Garden
With garden monument conservator Felix Merk
A visit to the influential perennial breeder and garden writer Karl Foerster left a lasting impression on Max Liebermann. The painter was especially fascinated by the subtle gradations of blue in the delphiniums and their harmonious arrangement in the flowerbeds. During a guided tour of the renowned Karl Foerster Garden—now a property of the German Foundation for Monument Protection—with garden monument conservator Felix Merk, you can experience firsthand why this garden has long been a source of inspiration. Admire the artfully arranged perennial plantings, the varied garden rooms, and the captivating play of colors—above all, the blue so important to both artists—and discover Foerster’s visionary approach to garden design.
