Visitor Guidelines
We are delighted to welcome you to the Museum Barberini in Potsdam. To ensure the best possible experience for all guests as well as the security of the works of art, we request that you observe the following rules. These guidelines apply to all visitors. Presence on the grounds of the Museum Barberini implies consent to the rules outlined here.
Our Values
We are committed to a community where the dignity of each person is inviolable. Respect is the foundation of our life together. We will not tolerate any form of harassment or discrimination due to national origin, gender, age, religion, ethnic identity, sexual orientation, physical or mental disability, or other personal characteristics.
Domiciliary Rights
The management of the Hasso Plattner Foundation Museums exercises domiciliary rights over the grounds and buildings of the Museum Barberini. The management may delegate the exercise of domiciliary rights to other authorized persons.
Our security service is responsible for ensuring that the visitor guidelines are observed. Please comply with their instructions when you are requested to do so.
Visitors may be refused entry or asked by the security service to leave the building or premises if there are reasonable grounds for believing they will harass or discriminate against other guests or members of the staff.
In case of serious or repeated violations of the visitor guidelines, the management may issue a ban prohibiting the person from entering the premises. The ban will be communicated in writing and is applicable to all exhibitions and events on the premises of the Hasso Plattner Foundation Museums. A written request with explanation is required for the ban to be lifted.
In the Museum Barberini
Please set your mobile phone to silent while in the museum building and refrain from making phone calls in the exhibition spaces in order to maintain a calm atmosphere for all visitors. Phone calls may be made on the basement level or in the foyer.
In case of fire or other emergency, visitors must leave the museum immediately through the marked exits. No items may be retrieved from the checkroom. All instructions issued by security staff or other persons authorized by the management of the Hasso Plattner Foundation Museums must be strictly followed.
Smoking is prohibited throughout the entire building.
We are delighted to welcome your children to the museum! However, since children are generally unfamiliar with the security precautions of a museum, we ask that children under the age of 12 be accompanied by an adult at all times. In the exhibition spaces, please do not carry your child on your back or shoulders. If necessary, you may carry your child in front of you in your arms.
Animals, with the exception of service dogs, are not allowed in the building. In the outdoor area, dogs must be kept on a leash.
Accessibility
The entire building is accessible to people with disabilities. We are happy to loan you a wheelchair upon request. Strollers are welcome pending a brief inspection by our visitor service. We are happy to loan you a stroller upon request.
Exhibition Spaces
The Museum Barberini is home to irreplaceable works of art. Please do not touch the exhibited works of art. For their protection, all interior and exterior spaces are monitored by video. To protect the works, we ask that you maintain a distance of 80 cm from the exhibited objects. Violating the safety clearance will trigger a security alarm and an acoustic signal.
No food or drinks are permitted in the exhibition spaces. Please feel free to visit the café on the ground level.
Writing and drawing are permitted in the exhibition spaces only with graphite or colored pencils.
The operation of the museum may require exhibition rooms to close temporarily. We make every effort to announce such closures as far in advance as possible.
Checkroom
Backpacks, handbags, and outerwear such as jackets and coats pose a security risk due to their bulkiness. Please leave them in our checkroom free of charge or use a locker. We ask that sweaters or cardigans be worn, checked, or tied around your shoulders while visiting the exhibition. Umbrellas, canes, bicycle helmets, and similar items may not be taken into the exhibition spaces. Walking aids may of course be used. To carry personal items, please use the transparent bags available free of charge in the checkroom.
No liability can be assumed for the checkroom. In exceptional circumstances, if items or articles of clothing cannot be checked for justifiable reasons, we reserve the right to inspect them.
Photographs and Videos
Photographing or videoing the works of art may be prohibited by the lenders. In such cases, we request that you comply with the corresponding signs. Non-flash photography and video for private purposes without the use of accessories such as tripods and selfie sticks is otherwise permitted in the interior and exterior spaces of the Museum Barberini. Other guests, security personnel, or museum staff may be photographed or videoed only with their permission.
Please note that the exhibited works of art are generally protected by copyright law and that publication on the internet or social media may require the permission of the copyright holder.
