With the help of experienced art and media experts, you will create your own work of art that you can take home with you. Mon, October 19, 10 am – 1 pm, Atelier
Painting like the Impressionists
In the garden, by the water or in the city – the Impressionists’ diverse subjects invite you to get creative yourself. In the exhibition, you’ll gather inspiration, which you’ll then bring to life in a variety of imaginative and artistic ways.

Wed, October 21, 10 am – 1 pm, Atelier
Tape Art: Modern Landscapes
In the exhibition, you’ll discover the Impressionists’ favourite places and how they painted them – with all their splashes of colour and moods. Back in the atelier, you’ll start by sketching your own favourite spot, whether in the city, in the countryside or at home. Instead of using brushes and paint, you’ll bring it to life with colourful adhesive tapes: cutting, sticking and building it up layer by layer – until your own tape art masterpiece emerges from straight lines.

Painting into the Blue. Cyanotype workshop
Light and shadow: with cyanotype, you can transform simple found objects into mysterious images, without needing a camera. You’ll gather inspiration from the exhibition. Afterwards, you’ll experiment in our atelier with natural materials, stencils and lots of different objects. With the help of light, your composition will magically transform into an image that you can take home with you.

Print it! Experimental print-making workshop with Gelli Print
At the Barberini Museum, you’ll draw inspiration from the artworks in the exhibition and use them to develop your own design ideas in the studio. Using vibrant colours, stencils, different textures and types of paper, you’ll transform these ideas into unique prints with the help of the Gelli plate. By layering colours and patterns across multiple passes, you’ll conjure up wonderfully whimsical fantasy worlds on paper.

Painting like Berthe Morisot
Berthe Morisot was one of the most important female painters of the Impressionist movement. She painted harbours, her family and everyday life, and even sat as a model for a famous artist. You’ll hear fascinating stories from her life and draw inspiration from her paintings in the exhibition before getting started yourself with brushes and paint in the atelier.

Thu, February 4, 10 am – 1 pm, Atelier
Your face in clay. A portrait you can touch
How do artists depict a face and express emotions? In the exhibition, you’ll learn from the Impressionists how they create portraits and busts. Afterwards, you’ll sketch out an initial idea for your own portrait. In the studio, you’ll then model your own bust out of clay – in your very own personal style.

Invisible! Digital drawing with Procreate
How can you blend a character into their surroundings so well that they’re almost impossible to spot? – You might be familiar with the ‘chameleon’ game from the current gaming trend. At the Museum Barberini, you’ll have a go yourself: you’ll examine selected works and collect colors, shapes and patterns for your own camouflage. You’ll then design a figure, develop it further using Procreate and make it disappear digitally into images from the exhibition.

The Impressionists’ Gardens. Your digital Mandala garden
The Impressionists’ gardens were their very own personal paradises. In the exhibition, you’ll discover fascinating stories about these artists’ gardens and how they were painted. Drawing inspiration from flowers, leaves and colour gradients, you’ll gather shapes and patterns for your own composition. Using an iPad and Procreate, you’ll arrange these elements into symmetrical, repeating structures – first as a sketch on paper, then digitally. The result will be your very own digital Mandala garden, one of a kind.

Design with vinyl film: textile upcycling
Bring along an old T-shirt, a cloth bag or another piece of clothing and give it a new lease of life: in this workshop, you’ll create abstract, colorful designs using vinyl film (heat transfer vinyl). Inspired by Impressionist paintings, you’ll create your own shapes, blocks of color and compositions, which will then be transferred onto your textile as a collage. This will transform an old favourite into a unique, personalised piece – for yourself or as a special gift.

Wed, February 3, 10 am – 1 pm, Studio
AI meets art – your image, your idea
Using AI as a creative tool, you’ll explore different ways at the Museum Barberini to create new images from your own ideas – from text-to-image to image-to-image. You’ll learn to translate your ideas into precise prompts, compare your results and develop them further in a targeted way. No prior experience with AI is required.
This prompt workshop was developed jointly by the HPI Maker Universe and the Barberini Museum.

Fri, February 5, 10 am – 1 pm, Studio
Digital Art. From Colour to Pixels
How did the Impressionists work with color, light and different moods? Taking the museum’s artworks as your starting point, you’ll develop your own ideas and translate them into digital form. Drawing on a vast selection of colors, shapes, textures and digital drawing tools, you’ll create your own unique artwork that bridges the gap between painting and digital art.
