Julius Frick
KlangFarben
Fri, July 10, 7 p.m.
In one of his final works, Claude Debussy combined three essential elements of classical musical instruments: the flute (wind instrument), the viola (dark strings and plucked notes), and the harp (plucked strings). The combination was so fascinating that it inspired imitators, such as André Jolivet. Paul Signac, too, understood how to combine light, rhythm, the materiality of the paint application, and color combinations. In our musical dialogue with painting, however, the flute and harp duo, the viola and flute duo, or even a single viola can also create fascinating interactions.
The KlangFarben series thrives on the moment: musicians from the Kammerakademie Potsdam engage in a dialogue with the images in the exhibition. Music writer and host Clemens Goldberg and museum director Ortrud Westheider bring art and music together and discuss the stories behind the works—an experiment.
