With the arrival of the French Impressionists at the Museum Barberini, Potsdam has become home to one of the most important collections of art from this era. The close relationship between Potsdam and France has therewith acquired a new dimension. This city tour "France in Potsdam" was created to mark the fifth anniversary of the Museum Barberini in January 2022 and highlights the French influences and connections that have helped shape Potsdam over the centuries.
The “Italy in Potsdam” audio tour on the Barberini app invites you to discover 30 buildings and works of art located around the Museum Barberini, which were created in Potsdam in the Italian style during the 18th and 19th centuries. Attractions include the “Nikolaikirche” (St. Nicholas Church), the Brandenburg Gate and the Orangery Palace at Sanssouci – the walk takes you through the town and reveals astonishing parallels between the buildings of Potsdam and Italian architecture. The “Italy in Potsdam” town tour is also available as a printed guidebook in the museum shop.
